Around Here:
I got to visit two of my quilts in the Springville Art Museum Annual Quilt Show! Entering my first quilt show was a big goal of mine this year, and pretty intimidating for me. It was delightful to see my work on the walls next to some pretty incredible art quilts! I’m seriously contemplating setting a goal to submit at least one quilt per year to this show going forward. It runs through the end of September, check it out if you can!
Playing around with some new designs. See above, felt brooches and folk floral redwork. The redwork will be available as a kit/pattern soon!
We’re easing into the homeschool year around here. I’ll have a high school senior, a 7th grader, and a 4th grader (Our oldest is a sophomore in college now). I’m looking forward to another year of learning together with my kiddos. This is my 18th year as a homeschooler, which feels completely bonkers.
Our garden tomatoes are out in full force, on of my favorite times of year.
Reading:
Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This series is EVERYWHERE and it’s popular for a reason. It's not appropriate in the least and not my typical genre (AT ALL) but I have been flying through these books lately. They are so entertaining, such perfect escapism with characters I love. I read the first three books in just a few days and now I’m forcing myself to slow down and spread them out a bit. (TW: violence, language. So much of both)
The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I didn’t read this coming of age book when I was growing up, and I’ve been meaning to get to it for years. So glad I finally made the time! Set in rural Florida in the late 1800s, this story includes a rugged cast of characters that feel now like my personal friends. We follow young Jody as his family faces poverty, danger and disaster on their struggling farm. His parents have faced years of hardship and work to provide the best life possible for Jody. All he wants is an animal of his very own. This sweet story will lift you up and break your heart in turn.
