Reading:
Good People by Patmeena Sabit ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book has a really interesting construction. It’s a mystery about a prominent family, but we never actually hear directly from the family. It’s told through interviews with neighbors and friends of the family but never the family itself. It lead to great discussion with my book club and then with my husband after I pressed it into his hands, with widely varying feelings about the ending of the book. It’s an ambiguous ending (intentionally so, I believe). I was fine with that as I feel it adds to the power of the story, but I know it made many people angry. I’ve you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
The Chosen by Chaim Potok ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I read this as a teenager, and now after a re-read for book club I can see how much I missed when I was younger. I loved this book! It was definitely difficult to read in places (a little slow in the middle), but overall I loved this look into a world I’m pretty unfamiliar with. I remember being so smitten by how studious the main characters were when I was a teenager, and I loved that aspect again as an adult. But the difference in parenting styles is what stood out to me most this reading.
