A Lively Hope #50
Around Here
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last month with a 3 day backpacking trip in Canyonlands National Park. It was an absolutely perfect adventure for us and we loved every moment.
I’ve been experimenting with dyeing fabric lately. My favorite results have come from avocado pits (which creates a lovely pink color!) and rust. I’ve already jumped into a project using these fabrics that I’m enjoying quite a lot. More on that later.
I was weeding in the garden earlier this week and was delighted to discover our first ripe strawberry of the season. Looking forward to many more.
Prepping for upcoming summer art markets. My first market this summer will be The Lavender Festival, one of my favorite in-person shows every year. Come see me if you have the chance!
A little Real Talk: sometimes I get in a pattern of overthinking this substack of mine and then I’ll find weeks have gone by and I’ve talked myself out of writing and sending it out. We’re obviously in that stage right now, and I’m working to get back to writing weekly. It’s weird being A Person Who Makes Stuff on the Internet. Thank you for your support and kindness!

Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a great mystery with a lot more. It touches deeply on the cost of war to individuals. Set just after WWI, it looks at the devestation caused by trench warfare to soldiers and their loved ones. And while that is a dark topic, I appreciated the humor and hope scattered throughout this story.
A fun retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Fairytale retellings are one of my favorite genres and this is a perfect example. Not spicy at all, just a very gentle enjoyable read full of magic and loving family relationships.
