Ethan's 5th birthday

Our Ethan turned 5 on Monday.
 I can hardly believe he's been with us for FIVE years!
We celebrated during a very full week; I've decided that having a birthday the same week as a major holiday leads to an overwhelming amount of celebrating. We had 3 Halloween parties, 2 birthday parties--one for friends, one for family-- and an actual birthday all in the same week. It was all very fun, of course, but we were more than ready to return to regular life once Ethan's birthday was over.

{we played "pin the trunk on the elephant" with the elephant above, I painted him on poster board}

The boy couldn't decide between a jungle animal party and a dinosaur party.  So, we had a jungle party with friends and the dinosaur party for family.  Luckily, jungle party decor works well for both!

Ethan's 5 best buddies came over for an afternoon of games, cupcake decorating, and fun.

Did I mention they got to decorate their own cupcakes?  That was a BIG hit!

After a craft and some games, we opened presents.  Ethan received a Lego set from one of his friends and after all the presents were opened, all the boys (even the dog!) gathered around the Lego set.  The lone girl in the group went back to her craft project.

 Jason and I thought this was hilarious.

Ethan requested Thanksgiving food for his family birthday dinner the next day.  We had the works: turkey, cranberries, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry salad, veggies, rolls and a dinosaur/volcano cake.

Naturally, after we spent hours in the kitchen Ethan didn't want to eat ANY of the food; he only wanted the dinosaurs off the cake.

He did eventually eat, and we enjoyed visiting with our wonderful, loving family.
They drove 2 hours to celebrate with us. That's love!

I'm grateful for this boy every single day.
We have had a string of hard days lately. Whoever coined the term "terrible twos" must not have had a 5 year old yet.  I think 5 is WAY more difficult than 2!
 But in the midst of the difficult days I still know this boy is mine and he always will be.
