One of Those Days

We went to the Waterloo Children's Museum today and had a blast. Our afternoon did not go as smoothly. I knew we needed gas this morning, but decided it could wait. Once we got back to the parking garage after the museum the car was out of gas. So I plopped Ethan in the stroller and we set off in the pouring rain to find the closest gas station. After talking to a woman on the street (who may or may not have previously been a man...I didn't notice until we were already talking) and to someone else (who has definitely always been female) we learned that getting to the nearest station would be a bit of a hike.

So we started hiking (if you are wondering, we didn't bring our cell phones and I have no way to get a hold of Jason at work. And even if I did, it would not be easy for him to bring me some gasoline on his bike). We eventually arrived at the gas station, purchased a cute little liter container of gas and hiked back to the car. Ellie was a trooper (she walked the 3 miles with only a little bit of whining) and Ethan fell asleep in the stroller. The rain even let up for our return trip.

At the fully automated and convenient parking garage I was charged twice for parking and just decided I didn't care. I just wanted to get on the road and be home. I was singing songs in the car with the kids to keep them happy as we drove along. Somewhere in the middle of "Wheels on the Bus" I missed my turnoff and we got a little bit lost. We got back on the right road and hightailed it home before anything else could go wrong. We got home, Ellie had hot chocolate and Ethan and I shared some pineapple and we decompressed for a few minutes. That's when I realized I left the diaper bag at the library (luckily it didn't have my wallet/camera in it!).

The moral of today's story: Don't be lazy! When things need to be done (such as getting gas) just DO them. You'll probably save yourself some trouble.

One positive thing did happen today: I learned that the scale in the hotel's gym is totally off. I haven't actually gained 15 pounds like it says. Hooray!

  1. Oh, I'm so glad you made it back safe and sound. I have had to have that lesson repeated many times in my life. Toronto is a beautiful city!!

  2. That is great news about the scale! Days like this are so frustrating... you handled it brilliantly though!
