Why do we spend money on toys for kids?

Want to know what has been keeping Ellie entertained during long car trips lately?

A plastic straw.

She pretends it's a flute and hums along with the Christmas music on the radio. She's done this there and back to my parents house (a good 50 minute drive) twice in the last few days.

One of Ethan's favorite things to do is pull out two of my mixing bowls, turn them upside down with one hand on each bowl and push them around the house.

Can anyone remind me why I buy them toys? And honestly, I don't buy toys very often--once or twice a year, really. But if I'd only known how happy Ellie could be with a plastic straw, I'd have bought her a box of 100 for Christmas and called it good.

( I guess that's not really true. I'm excited to give her the gift we got. But still!)

  1. That's a great question. You're kids are so imaginative and creative.
