Bartholomew and the Oobleck

For Muffin Tin Monday (okay, it was Tuesday) we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. Our lunch was all green: celery sticks, broccoli, green apples, bread with green cream cheese and ranch (dyed green with food coloring) to dip the veggies in, as well as green bubble gum.
After we ate, we made Oobleck. It's a wonderfully squishy and squelchy and stretchy concoction.

Here's the recipe:

1 C water
1 C Elmer's glue-all
7-1- drops food coloring

1 1/3 C warm water
4 tsp Borax Booster

Mix solutions separately
Pour solution A into Solution B. DON'T MIX!!
Roll Solution A around. Lift Solution A out and knead 2-3 minutes.

Store in a Ziploc bag.
Cutie and Ellie have both loved having Uncle David around. He has boundless energy and plays with them really well. It's been nice for me to have extra help, too. Have any other Moms out there noticed that the more kids you have the more patient you become? Patient with messes, with screaming children, temper tantrums, mountains of laundry, a sinkful of dishes, etc. This is not the reaction I thought I'd have when we found we'd suddenly be getting a newborn. I thought for sure I'd be stressed beyond belief and crying in the corner by the end of the day. Maybe I'm just past the point of caring, but I like to think I've finally realized what is most important. I'm sure I'm receiving some help from Above, as well. (Another thing that could be helping is that I've never actually tried to take all the kids anywhere by myself. I think I'll have to tomorrow and I'm NERVOUS!) I am working hard to enjoy this time with my babies. I still try to keep the house clean, of course, but it seems less important than reading to, playing with and holding my kiddos. I know the boys are not actually mine, but I sure feel like they are. And if they have to leave us, I would hate to think I wasted this time worrying about whether the floor was clean.

I mean, would you rather scrub the floor or watch this?

  1. You are so right. Although I only have two now. I do find that it is not as hard as I expected. You seem like you are doing a great job. I am glad that you are enjoying your time with Cutie and Peanut. They are so lucky to have come into your family's life.

  2. I stopped caring as much about messes since Gavin... really their time of being small is so short you don't want to waste it cleaning. You are right on the money my friend!!!
