Words for your Weekend:: Happiness

Don't you think this is true?  As you look back at your life, when have you been happiest?  When you felt overly virtuous or were concentrated on only receiving pleasure?  Probably not.

This quote makes me think of a certain point I reach on any long hike. I'm nearly to the top of a steep climb, very close to the summit. I've been hiking for miles, my feet are generally tired, I'm probably sweaty.  But I suddenly realize that I'm going to complete this challenge.  I set out to accomplish a goal, I stuck with it despite discomfort and I am going to finish. My feet don't ache quite as much and I find I am able to enjoy the view as I hike along.  I am happy because I am growing.

This is true in any aspect of our lives.  When we are growing, we are happy.  Let's choose one area in which to grow this week.  It could be anything:  taking the next step on the much-thought-of and often put-off project that's always on your mind,  de-cluttering one area of your home,  writing the thank you note you've been meaning to get to,  etc.

This week I'd like to concentrate on spending one-on-one time with my kids.  This is a habit that waxes and wanes for me.  It's easy to let it go when life gets full.  But it's so important for their happiness and mine.  I find that their behavior improves and I like my kids a whole lot more when I get to spend time with them one-on-one :)

Where would you like to see some growth in your life?

"Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that, but simply growth.  We are happy when we are growing"

If you need a little inspiration in this area, feel free to snag the image above and hang it in a prominent place.  I made it just for you! :)
