Christmas Eve

Our Christmas celebrations this year were simple and wonderful. After going to see a movie in the late morning ( a tradition that helps time pass more quickly on a long anticipation-filled day...and not just for the kids. I still get so excited on Christmas Eve that I can't sleep!) we celebrated with the Hillmans on Christmas Eve. The kids enjoyed the traditional Nativity play. Surprisingly, Ethan made an excellent Joseph and was very adamant about wearing his head scarf (what do you call those things?)

Ellie got into her role of Shepherd, Hailey made a beautiful Mary, and our donkey (Luke) wisemen (Sam, Scott and Dad), and narrator (Jason) put on a spectacular performance.
For just a minute, Baby was put into the manger as Baby Jesus but then we decided to play it much safer by using a doll. We caught both Mary (cousin Hailey) and Joseph holding the pretend Baby Jesus upside down at different points during the play, so we felt good about our decision.

This is one of my favorite Christmas traditions, and I love that we were able to do it on our own this year as well as with the extended family. (Our pictures included Baby, so I can't share them here...)
We came home, read our Nativity picture book, the kids opened jammies and went off to bed.
