What is the deal...

...with us and vacations lately? You'll remember that our last one got off to a rocky start. Thanks to my generous grandparents (Thanks, G and G!) we have been able to spend the last couple of days in Park City on a much needed getaway. So far, Ethan is sick and grumpy, we locked ourselves out and had to call (and pay) a locksmith, and my purse (including my wallet, planner and camera--and more importantly some darling pictures I took of Ellie while we were out snowshoeing--) was stolen.

Watching this has been a good reminder to me that things are just things. Sure, I've had to cancel my debit card and I'll have to go get a new drivers license (ugh!) but I am here with the people I love more than anything else. I got to take the kids snowshoeing for a bit yesterday and I went all by myself this morning. We had an easter egg hunt this morning. I wasn't sure Ethan would understand what was going on, but he did. It was so fun to watch. We won't have pictures to document Ethan's first egg hunt, but it's possible that I got to enjoy it more because I wasn't on a quest to get the perfect picture of him.

While it would have been nice to have had a completely relaxing weekend without stolen property or stupid mistakes or sickness, that's life. We can't wait for everything to be perfect in our lives before we are happy. That's just not going to happen. There is always a challenge, trial, sickness or the consequences of a stupid mistake we need to deal with. It's not easy to look past those things, but I'm going to try focus on the happy moments instead.

  1. I'm sorry! That stinks! Happy Easter anyway!

  2. You're good to always find the silver lining! Happy Easter!

  3. I'm sorry about your purse and camera. Glad you were still able to enjoy a vacation though. Happy Easter to you all.

  4. I'm so sorry those things happened! My purse was stolen last year and it was a major pain. I wanted to thank you for Posting this, I've been trying to see the positive side of things lately and this just helped me remember not to give up!

  5. You are so positive. Sounds like you made lemonaide and had a great time.
