Being the Little Brother

Over the last couple of months I have loved watching Ellie and Ethan's relationship develop. He's old enough to walk and talk and play now and they both adore each other. It is so fun for me, as the proud mama, to see them interact and have such a great time together. Ethan wants to be where Ellie is. If he is awake, he is following her around. He has recently taken up mimicking and is very good at it. We have a lot of fun making various noises for him to repeat. He also has a daily ritual of going into Ellie's room in the morning (he wakes up before she does) to check on her. Part of his ritual is also to pour the drink of water that goes next to her bed at night all over the floor, but that's a story for another day.

This evening Ellie grabbed one of her favorite blankets, put it over her head and wandered the house "ooooooh"-ing like a ghost. So naturally, as the little brother, it was Ethan's responsibility to do the same.

He has no idea what a ghost is or why he must have a blanket on his head to be one. All he knew was that his Big Sis had a blanket on her head. He must also. Big Sis was saying "Ooooooh!", so he was too.

Of course this sent Big Sis into fits of giggling. She said, "I've never been so laughy in all my life!" between bursts of uncontrollable laughter.

For a long time I worried about how far apart in age these two are. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to be friends or relate to each other. I am extremely happy to say that I was wrong.

  1. Actually sometimes the age difference is good. Brandon and Little Girlie get along so well and there is an even bigger age difference, 7 years between the two almost exactly! Your kids are so cute and Ellie is mini-you.

  2. I'm glad they get along so well. Dax and Gillian have a great relationship too,and I'm so glad.

  3. That is so cute. I felt the same I didn't know how well my kids would play together and even being a boy and girl. and they love to play together. So glad that Ellie and Ethan are the same way. They are so cute.
