Happy Birthday, Mr. Peanut!

We celebrated Ethan's 1st birthday on Wednesday. Today marks the first anniversary of when we brought him home from the hospital. I can hardly believe it's been a year already, but in some ways it feels like he's always been with us.

We went with an airplane theme, since he adores them so.

Ellie colored and cut out some airplanes and we hung them from the ceiling. We put them up while Ethan was taking his nap. He liked them a lot more than I expected which made standing on a shaky bar stool on my tippy toes to tape the ribbon to our 9 ft. ceiling totally worth it.

For dinner we served Ethan's favorites: pasta with homemade alfredo sauce, corn, rolls and applesauce. Maybe I should say second favorite since I couldn't bring myself to serve-- or eat--bologna. As always, Ethan rubbed the food in his hair during dinner, so his hair is very greasy in all the following pictures. (Also, you'll probably notice his latest owie. He fell out of our back door and landed on the porch on his nose. He had a bloody nose and a hugely swollen bloody lip. It looks MUCH better in the picture than it did when it first happened. Judging from other boys we know, this is just the first of many such injuries.)

Grandma and Grandpa Hillman joined us for presents and cake and ice cream.

This is Ethan doing the sign for "Airplane". His version, anyway.

He's definitely a fan of cake. And now you understand why we didn't bathe him after the alfredo-sauce-in-the-hair incident at dinner.

Here are the stats from his 12 month check-up yesterday:

Weight: 20 lbs 4 oz 25th percentile
(That's a big move from 3rd percentile when he was 2 months!)
Height: 30 inches 50th percentile
Head: 75th percentile
(Why is it that both of our kids have enormous heads?)

Happy Birthday, Ethan!
We love you!
